Our 5 Favourite Props (And How We’ve Used Them)

At Nikkita Palmer Designs, our workshop and warehouse are packed full of vintage finds, reclaimed furniture and handcrafted props, each with its own personality and story. Over the years, our hire collection has grown into a carefully curated inventory of pieces designed to elevate festivals, brand activations, corporate events and parties.

Choosing favourites is never easy, but there are a handful of props we return to time and time again. These pieces are incredibly versatile, photograph beautifully and always help bring a styling concept together.

Here are five of our favourite props from our inventory and how we love to use them.

1. Vintage Velvet Sofas

Velvet sofas are an absolute staple in our inventory. Whether in rich jewel tones or softer pastel shades, they instantly create a luxurious and inviting atmosphere.

We often use them to build lounge areas at festivals, brand activations and corporate events. Styled with layered rugs, cushions and low tables, they create the perfect chill-out space for guests to relax, chat and take a break from the main event.

At festivals, they work brilliantly in VIP lounges or backstage areas, while at brand events, they help create stylish seating zones that feel both comfortable and visually striking.

Styling tip: Pair with vintage side tables, statement rugs and warm lighting to create a relaxed but elevated lounge space.

2. Vintage Rugs

Rugs are one of the easiest ways to transform a space. They help define seating areas, add colour and texture, and instantly make large open spaces feel more intimate.

We love layering rugs in lounge setups, especially for festival chill zones, pop-up spaces and immersive brand activations. Mixing patterns and tones creates depth and visual interest while making the space feel curated and comfortable.

They’re also perfect for anchoring statement furniture or building cosy corners within larger event layouts.

Styling tip: Don’t be afraid to layer multiple rugs for a relaxed, eclectic look.

3. Vintage Dressing Tables

One of the most playful pieces in our collection is our vintage dressing tables. These props are incredibly versatile and are always a hit with guests.

We’ve used them for:

  • Festival pamper parlours

  • Interactive styling stations

  • Photo opportunities

  • Product display areas at brand activations

When styled with mirrors, flowers and soft lighting, they create a beautiful focal point and encourage guests to interact with the space.

Styling tip: Add vintage stools, decorative trays and statement mirrors to elevate the setup.

4. Wooden Ladders

Vintage wooden ladders might sound simple, but they’re one of the most adaptable props in our collection.

We regularly use them for:

  • Hanging signage

  • Displaying florals

  • Photo displays

  • Product showcases

  • Menu or schedule boards

They’re especially useful for brand activations and event styling because they provide vertical display space while keeping the overall look relaxed and creative.

Styling tip: Drape with foliage, fairy lights or dried flowers to soften the structure and add texture.

5. Brass Candlesticks

Candlesticks are one of those small details that make a huge difference. Our collection of vintage brass candlesticks adds warmth, character and atmosphere to styled tables and lounge areas.

We love using them for dinner events, private parties and brand experiences where lighting and ambience are key to the overall mood.

Mixed heights create visual interest and help give tables that effortless “styled but not overdone” feel.

Styling tip: Combine brass candlesticks with coloured glassware or small bud vases for a layered tablescape.

Why Props Matter in Event Styling

Props are more than just decorative objects; they help tell the story of your event. The right combination of furniture, textures and styling pieces can completely transform a space and create memorable guest experiences.

Many of the pieces in our inventory are vintage, reclaimed or handcrafted, meaning each one brings its own character while supporting our sustainable design approach.
